Instrumental Lessons 2023-2024
Guidelines and Objectives
Teacher Responsibility: My job is to train students to develop technical skills in the goal of becoming life-long musicians. My proficiency on each instrument allows me to coach students in proper techniques for tone production, music reading, phrasing, expression, and other related performance skills. I will diagnose each individual's skills and offer ways for students to build solid mastery of their instrument.
Student Responsibility: Students are expected to develop the habits and skills necessary to become good musicians. Daily practice is crucial to this development. As a teacher, I can’t make students into good musicians – I’m only the coach that guides and trains their efforts. Every achievement belongs to the students, and the speed and quality of their success depends entirely on the daily work that they put into playing their instruments. Students are expected to arrive at their lesson on time each week with all necessary materials, prepared to perform their assignment.
Schedule: Students are expected to report to the lesson room at their assigned time even on days when they forget their instrument (I will touch base with them, answer their questions and may add additional assignments for the following week). I have a preset schedule for 2-hour delays: every student will have lessons, even if their regular lesson time is before 10:00am. In the case of a weather-related early dismissal, every attempt will be made to see your child, even for a brief lesson, before school is closed.
Parents, if I have a sick day, I will notify you and your child's teacher on ParentSquare before school as your child does not need to bring their instrument to school that day. (in case you don’t see the message/post before school, your child will be notified by the classroom teacher that they will not have a lesson that day.)
Calls and texts are always welcome!
